At the beginning there were two proposed solutions to the problem of sending
routing information over uni-directional links:
- Modify the routing protocols to cope with the presence of a
uni-directional link.
- Hide the uni-directional links problem, by using tunneling to hide
the uni-directional link. This implies that there's a back channel
through the normal internet, in addition to the satellite link.
In this particular case, it seems easiest to use a tunneling solution. This
is not a general solution, but it's fine for most purposes. Current work is
focussing on the use of tunneling.
