This was a joint proposal by by Cabletron, Toshiba and IBM for a new encoding scheme of labels in the Destination Adddress field of the MAC header. This will have to be implemented in the LAN switches, the label encoding was presented, the label consists of the usual VPI/VCI pair and for a stack of labels these will be accomodated between the MAC and Network layer headers as usual. It was suggested that this scheme will leverage the existing bridge H/W.
