DILS

A proposal from the IBM research Center in Zurich. The goal is the scalable interconnection of n points avoiding the problem while preserving the ATM traffic characteristics with minimum hardware changes and a distributed architecture (with no single point of failure).

The Merge Alternatives can be either Frame Based (pseudo reassembly) or Cell based. The concept is to use flow merging and connection setup as proposed by ARIS, use VPI for routing and VCI for sender identification and sender identification to be semi-static (ARIS dynamics). Extensions will include Assymetric case, EPD and QoS support.

Soft State Switching

  1. Setup Procedure
  2. Partial QoS path
  3. Merging
  4. Multicast
  5. Shared Media Label Allocation
